Goed nieuws uit Nederland – The Ruf Group is pleased to announce the successful completion of another project in the Netherlands. On behalf of rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail, Ruf supplied its VisiWeb® passenger information system for eleven new FLIRT 3 vehicles.
The Stadler FLIRT 3 three-car electric multiple units (EMU) were ordered by the railway company Arriva Netherlands and will go into commercial operation in the province of Limburg, in the very south of the Netherlands.
Project realisation according to plan
The VisiWeb passenger information system was delivered on schedule and in sync with the tightly scheduled vehicle delivery over the period from 2022 to the end of 2024. Arriva Limburg is thus consistently focusing on modern passenger information and seamless system integration. The new vehicles complement Arriva’s FLIRT fleet, which has been in operation in Limburg since 2016. At that time, 15 two-car multiple-unit trains went into operation, followed three years later by eight three-car vehicles operating across borders between the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
State-of-the-art passenger information
With the delivery of the eleven new trains, the existing fleet will be expanded and modernised. This means that all vehicle generations are equipped with Ruf’s proven VisiWeb passenger information system from Ruf. In addition to providing visual and acoustic information, VisiWeb also includes important passenger safety and communication functions.
Extended security functions
Each trainset is equipped with a video surveillance system with several cameras. The CCTV system provides recordings for evaluation by the authorities when required. Furthermore, passengers have access to eight VisiWeb emergency intercom units per vehicle in, compliant with the TSI PRM standard. These allow direct voice communication with the train driver and enhance onboard safety.
Forward-looking public transport
With the successful realisation of this project, the Ruf Group is making a valuable contribution to the provision of reliable passenger information in public transport in the province of Limburg. Passengers benefit from modern trains that combine comfort, safety and innovative information technology. We would like to thank our partners for the excellent cooperation and look forward to further joint projects.
