The PIS is controlled from the control panel and camera images of the video surveillance system can be displayed.
The PIS-based functions normally include:
- Entry of train, line, route or circulation number
- Display of the current vehicle position
- Display of any timetable deviations
- Manual correction in the event of unscheduled route changes
In addition to the graphic user interface, the control panel has numerous other interfaces.
This extends its range of functions as follows:
- Connection of microphone/headset for spontaneous announcements
- Connection of a monitor loudspeaker for listening to automatic announcements
- Integration of train-wide information and emergency intercom functions (acoustic and visual)
- Connection to the railway radio system (GSM-R or proprietary)
- Connection to the remote driver's cab and any train conductors
- Integration of the video surveillance system with camera image display option
- Display of diagnostics data for the entire PIS
